Instructional coaches and leaders act as change agents to improve the quality of classroom instruction, which leads to improved student learning. Instructional leaders are needed to help teachers work collaboratively to solve problems and make decisions that will impact achievement. These leaders skillfully assist teachers to reflect on and critique their practice to improve effectiveness in the classroom. In order to do so, they must be skilled in working with adults, understand the change process and understand the sources of resistance, be comfortable with facilitation skills, and communication skills.
